Brand History: In 1839, Antoine Norbert de Patek and François Czapek founded the Patek, Czapek & Cie watch company. In 1844, Jean Adrien Philippe won a bronze medal at the Paris Industrial Exposition for his keyless winding and manual setting systems. In 1851, the company was renamed Patek, Philippe & Cie–Fabricants à Genève, officially establishing the Patek Philippe brand. In 1932, the Stern brothers (Jean and Charles Henri Stern) invested in and acquired Patek, Philippe & Cie.
