INTRODUCTION TO COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION (3 UNITS)

This course is an examination of the historical development of colleges and universities as institutions of higher learning, from the rise of these institutions in medieval Europe to their present state of development. An emphasis is placed on the evolution of American colleges and universities.
The course focuses on the manner in which the idea and the ideal of higher education inform administration of the academy.

EDU 51O THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN AMERICAN HIGHER EDUCATION (3 CREDITS)

This course will have some aspects of the new paradigm. For example, output objects and students will write their own objectives.
This course is an overview of the organization of the invention and the historical development of the community college in American Higher Education and its promise of educational opportunity in the American Higher Educational System. Participants will explore current readings of the community college movement, teaching and learning in the community college, and college within an administrative context.

EDU 503 ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR IN EDUCATION (3 CREDITS)

Participants will analyze organizational behavior in schools. The major focus of the course is based within the framework of the knowledge, dispositions and performance indicators of the schools.
The course will address the shift in thinking in the ongoing school reform movement, the concept of the research resulting from the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The distinction between transformational leaders and transactional leaders and the effectiveness of adaptive leadership in times of rapid change, uncertainty, and the equality will be addressed as they relate to assumptions about intelligence. Students will be expected to complete exercises and write a paper describing their own choice.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION

CURRICULUM LEADERSHIP (3 credits)

Students are introduced to the K-12 curriculum development and curriculum planning and development. The course applies the philosophic visions of John Dewey, Maxine Greene, and other educational progressives to the practical realities of systemic curriculum and teaching reform. (Instructor to be assigned)

MODELS OF TEACHING AND LEARNING (3 credits)

The aim of this course is to present to the teacher a wide selection of teaching models or approaches to teaching that they can effectively use to develop curriculum, design instructional materials and assist them in the day to day and long-term instruction in teaching.
Topics include where models of teaching come from, how to classify and apply them, the generic social models, information processing models, personal family models, and behavioral system models. At the conclusion of this course, participants will demonstrate that they can apply various models of teaching and learning in their classroom. (Instructor to be assigned)

LEADERSHIP AND ETHICS (6 credits)

This course module will show principals, prospective principals, and other administrators and managers in business how to understand assess, and manage issues that have an ethical dimension in the education or their organization. Students will survey the main ethical theories dominant in Western Culture and will be encouraged to appreciate that effective understanding and management of ethics is a key component of successful leadership. LEADERSHIP IN CREATING EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER LEARNING ORGANIZATIONS

The Learning Organization was created by Peter Senge in his breaking down the bureaucracy. Later Terry O.Banion developed the Educational Learning Organization.

The participants will examine the works of Peter Senge and Terry O’Banion and analyze the theory and strategies for the creation and implementation of a “learning organization”. When they complete this course, they will be able to design an educational learning organization.

INTRODUCTION TO EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION AND GOVERNANCE

This introductory course is designed for those wish to become administrators of school systems. It is an overview of school administration in the American context. Topics to be examined include the context of schooling in American public and private, an overview of responsibilities and administrative processes, leadership, managerial, political and educational roles and educational administration in the 21st-century overview.

AN OVERVIEW OF AMERICAN PUBLIC EDUCATION (3 credits)

This is an introductory course exploring the organization and operation of the public school systems in the United States and the roles of federal state governments and local school districts. An analysis of the governance of boards, administrators, school-oriented groups, communities, and national interest groups. Private school and charter school administration will be addressed within the Americal school context. (Instructor will be assigned)

MANAGING EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES (3 credits)

A practical course in applying business management. Principles to the management of the resources in the school system skills will be developed in financial management, accounting, auditing, computerized business management systems, salary schedules, budgeting procedures, managing the use of facilities and pupil transportation.

ADMINISTRATION OF PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICE IN ELEMENTARY -SECONDARY EDUCATION (3 credits)

Participants examine the organization, operation and delivery of school programs in student vocational and psychological counseling, health, social services discipline, child welfare, and the juvenile justice system. The aim of the course is to provide a framework for the study of student services administration. Legal issues will be studied within the framework. Students will sleet an area to study in depth in the operations, delivery, and administration of student personnel service. Participants will be evaluated on field projects and a scholarly paper.

EDUCATION AND THE LAW K12 AND HIGHER EDUCATION

This is a reading course in which students pursue extensive readings on cases and issues surrounding the legal framework of education and the kinds of laws that govern and regulate the education. Students interested will determine the area of focus, either elementary, secondary, or post-secondary education. An examination of the various levels and branches of government that create educational law and current legal issues and cases affecting educational change will be emphasized. Participants will be required to present a paper on a major current legal issue in education. (Instructor to be assigned)
