The country music industry was devastated when one of the sons of the late Waylon Jennings passed away early morning on Friday, Jan. 25^th. Terry Jennings, the eldest of the six children, died at the age of 62, just four days after his birthday. He is the brother of Shooter Jennings, also a country artist.

Terry was the father of three children. One of them is Whey Jennings, who also started his career in country music at a very young age. In fact, Terry recalled back then when little Whey got starstruck at one of his Grandpa Waylon’s shows:

“He was just a boy at one of his Grampa Waylon’s shows and his Grama Jessi had just left the stage after singing ‘Storms Never Last’ when she sat her mic in the chair backstage. Young Whey picked up the mic and pranced out on stage and began singing ‘Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.’ His Grampa then gave a ‘Hey, hold up there hoss, wait for me’ and went pickin’ and when the song was through, the crowd went nuts and it was on that day that Whey fell in love with music.”

Whey’s brother, Josh, took to social media and shred the news of their father’s passing. Revealing his deep sense of loss and heartbreak, he wrote on Facebook:

On the other hand, Shooter Jennings also spoke about his brother’s passing and shared it on Instagram. He stated:

“So sad to see ya go, Terry. I love you.”

With his post, he also shared some good memories and pictures of them together.

The cause of his death, however, was not stated.

A Recollection of Terry and Waylon Jennings

Recently, Terry released his book about the special relationship he had with his late father, Waylon. Titled Waylon: Tales of My Outlaw Dad, this compelling book talked about the incredible times that he and Waylon shared together. Moreover, it is a spellbinding account of time with one of country music’s biggest legends and an outlaw icon very much remembered until this day.

Also, the book explains how Terry followed in his father’s footsteps and traveled along with him selling merchandise before becoming the tech and stage manager for drummer Richie Albright.
