Stop-Shopping-Cart-Abandonment
It is the shopping season and fine tuning your e-Commerce website is on the way knowing that it is one good way to optimize your sales. e-Commerce has its own challenge. Getting your customers to find you and have them shop on your website while stopping them in abandoning your shopping cart is another. Whether customers are comparison shopping, not decided in purchasing due to some other reasons, or using your shopping cart as a wish list, it pays to hold cart content. An abandoned cart does not necessarily a lost sale. It is estimated that around 28% of shoppers took longer than a day complete the purchasing journey and another 14% took longer a week to finally purchase the product. Check your analytics, what could be the problem in shopping cart abandonment? If the statistics show you that your abandonment rate is at 71%, it does not mean that you really lost the entire 71% for good. What then can be the reason? There is not one good reason or explanation why this happens but it could be a result of multiple factors: a. Sticker shock – tax and shipping charges are too high b. Customer not ready to purchase, yet. c. Comparison shopping d. Second thoughts on the product’s price tag e. Saving it for later (wishlist on the shopping cart’s feature) To counter this, it is advised to have your website support multi-session shoppers. Multi session cookies hold the contents in the cart for the unique user. You would like to have these cookies stored on the user’s computer and would last at least 30 days. This way, you have a better chance of converting users to customers who are likely to take a longer period of time in making their decision and who would expect to find their carts or wishlists intact when they return back to your site and to your shopping cart. Another advantage of this is that a user will always see the quantity and the price of the shopping cart contents. This will save them time in finding the products again, repeating the entire process again. Make sure to measure to your customer behavior including repeat visits and site conversions across reporting intervals. With longer cookie durations, this can help you track these factors accurately. To get the best picture of why your shopping cart is abandoned, you would also need to factor customer behavior, user experience, provide the usability to support multi-session cookies and understand what the metrics are needed to track and how to track effectively. With this, you can finally ask, how do you stop shopping carts being abandoned?
