When it is pointed that low-quality back links are bringing your website’s search ranking in Google, youshould start to consider using Google’s Disavow tool. Originally released way back in October 2012, thistool gives web masters to specify which back links they would want Google to ignore. It is simple enoughto be understood but doing it in a wrong way would affect overall back links’ impact on a website.
You might think that why would somebody would want to disavow their back links when in fact they helpin’ their overall rankings on the search pages. All back links certainly do prove beneficial effects inrankings but can also have a negative impact. If the back links look spammy for Google, then it isexpected that they are pointing to would be penalized.
But before using the disavow tool, web masters must first attempt to manually remove all the bad linksthat are found. This can be done by performing an analysis of your website’s back links via theWeb master Tools’ backlink checker or any of your preferred back link checking tool. Sort all yourwebsite’s back link sources and find all the spammy links and try to ask the website owner to remove thelinks for you. Once you’ve accomplished this, visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main while logged into your Google account, choose your website, and click the Disavow linksbutton. You can then either manually enter the bad links you wish to disavow or upload a file containingthem.
Although, it is somewhat natural for a website to have spammy links, Google warns web master to onlyuse the tool if a website has a “considerable number of spammy” links.
“This is an advanced feature and should only be used with caution. If used incorrectly, this feature canpotentially harm your sites performance in Googles search results. We recommend that you disavowback links only if you believe you have a considerable number of spammy, artificial, or low-quality linkspointing to your site, and if you are confident that the links are causing issues for you,” wrote Google.
