Just recently, there has been a lot of speculation about Google’s intentions with mobile search. Google has now announced on Webmaster Central that confirms it. On our previous blogs, having a mobile-friendly website is essential to a successful Search Engine Optimization strategy this 2015. And just these previous weeks, Google has officially announced that they are expanding on mobile-friendly sites as a ranking signal. To quote “Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.” The search giant machine does not typically make announcements regarding algorithm changes and pointing out phrases like “significant impact” and does not usually give out exact dates with regards on their changes. Google is providing a big timeline to encourage those website owners to have their websites to be mobile-friendly and to start the transition as soon as possible. April 21 is fast approaching. Even before this announcement, Google’s intention has been very clear. It had been pushing to encourage website owners to make their web properties mobile-friendly. For example, Google added “mobile-friendly” labels on mobile search results, sent website owners mobile usability warning notifications via Google Webmaster Tools (GWT), even launching a mobile friendly testing tool and mobile usability report. Presently, having a mobile-friendly website has been a standard towards achieving a better competitive advantage. The bottom line would be given to those who provide website visitors the best mobile experience wins. It is also possible that responsive websites will be given preference in Google search versus dedicated mobile sites. In conclusion, this big announcement would eliminate any doubts regarding the rankings of mobile friendly websites and will move forward better over sites that are not.
