If this was a good idea, it would definitely an industry standard. If major businesses like Google andAmazon who spends a lot of time and effort in researching what works and what does not, do notput music on auto play. If music is embedded on a website that is set to automatically play workedfor engaging users, they would have done it. But in reality, they did not.
Experts do not recommend it. Not only experts do, but most users also do. The fact of the matter isthat, there is nothing to be found to support why automatic play on websites is or could bebeneficial to users. There might be an exception to music websites but most users expect web pagesto contain useful information, not carry a tune.
While you should always be looking for other ways to make your own website dynamic andengaging, it is important to be mindful of the changes that might provoke a negative reactiontowards your website’s users. Having autoplay seems to be a great idea, but in all actuality, it iscounter productive.
Today, certain companies still try to add autoplay sounds on their websites, only to learn that again,is not a bright idea. Website visitors shun these types of websites and sometimes boycott theproducts being advertised on it. While some media centric websites sites such as YouTube still haveautoplay features on their content, viewers are attracted to click on a link or a button, and areexpecting to hear music and/or watch videos. Most bands and record labels’ websites placesemphasizes on options to users to listen to songs and videos.
Remember that your site is a tool for you to promote your business and for users to learn about yourbusiness. The more useful a website is, the more it will be used.
