During a live two-hour finale on Tuesday night (Dec. 18), The Voice has crowned 16-year-old New Mexico girl Chevel Shepherd as the newest winner of Season 15. Her coach is Kelly Clarkson who interestingly also won the last season, hence, repeating her winning streak with Shepherd. In fact, Clarkson calls her mentee “My Country Tinkerbell.”

Just a few moments after the announcement of the winner, Coach Kelly got choked up marveling at the 16-year-old country artist’s finale performance. For Shepherd’s finale show, she rendered a tasty “Broken Hearts” for the audience.

In an interview with USA TODAY, Clarkson shared what she thought about Shepherd’s performance.

“She made it just pure country and it’s beautiful. I was listening to her last night and I was like, ‘I remember like before, when I was like her. You just remember that point of your life.”

As her eyes teared up, she immediately added:

“I’m so glad this isn’t on video. I’m always caught crying… My makeup artist hates me.”

On the other hand, when asked about what she is feeling, Shepherd answered:

“It’s crazy. I feel so excited.”

Again, Clarkson was quick to respond:

“It feels freaking awesome to win again. I’ve just believed in (Chevel) since the blind auditions. She’s been a little favorite of mine.”

Aside from Shepherd being hailed as the contest’s grand winner, the other three competitors were also recognized. Coming in second place is Chris Kroeze of Team Blake Shelton, who hails from Barron, Wisconsin. He is a fan-favorite throughout the whole season with huge overnight downloads. Another country singer, Kirk Jay, also from Team Blake, landed in the third place. Meanwhile, Jennifer Hudson’s bet, Kennedy Holmes, came in fourth. To note, Holmes, who just turned 14 just over a week ago, is the youngest finalist ever in the show.
