Too Few Female Country Artists?
“That Don’t Impress Me Much” singer, Shania Twain, is definitely is unimpressed right now with country music. In an interview with E! News, she talked about the new reality TV search “Real Country” and how she wishes to see more females involved in the genre.

In that interview, she was asked about wanting to talk about the women in country music today and Shania Twain said, “What women?!” Then the country star continued to explain how disappointed is because there are “too few” women in country music.
What and How to Boost Female Presence in Country Music
Shania Twain also said that we need more female presence on the radio. She said:
“We are not making radio progress, but we are making very small, steady steps towards awareness that we’re lacking women on country radio.”
Shania Twain revealed some ideas on how to jump-start the progress, which included her new TV show.
“We have too much of the sameness right now. I’m a little bit bored of it, and I want to pick it up. The only way to do that is to be proactive. I wanted a show that, when you talk about diversity, that includes gender diversity, style diversity, lifestyle diversity.”
According to her, she is also “fed up with the ageist and sexist thing” when it comes to limits on helping talent break into the scene.
Small Progress throughout Her Career
The country star shared some progress throughout her career as Shania Twain. Although small,
“When I first came on the scene in country music, the limits were way too narrow for me, and it was hard for me. There are a lot of artists out there who are intimidated of what they believe country music is…I want to show them there are no limits.”
For all the women out there who wants her help, Shania Twain is all ears. She said:
“I want to know who you are and I want to help you. I want to give you an opportunity.”
Shania Twain insisted that if there’s one major saving grace in country music, it’s the fans. Despite the music itself being narrow, she gave praise to the devoted supporters of country music.
“Who am I am as an artist, as a songwriter, as a performer is completely outside the box of where we’ve narrowed country music to be right now,” she pointed out. “But the fans aren’t narrow-minded.”
