January 4, 1969, is a very special date for Dolly Parton. That was the time when she officially became a member of the Grand Ole Opry, the longest running radio station in U.S. history. Moreover, last Friday marked her 50th anniversary as Opry’s member. In line with this, she will be performing two sets in October.
The Grand Ole Opry is an iconic elite club for country artists including Johnny Cash, Charley Pride, and Loretta Lynn. Anyhow, Dolly Parton became an elite member after the release of her hit “Just Because I’m a Woman.” The single was commercially successful. This shows that she can sell records with her talent. Just a fun fact, Parton was 13 when she was introduced by Cash in the Opry. Plus, she performed a classic hit from George Jones “You Gotta Be My Baby” alongside with her uncle Billy Owens. She is really a special gem in the industry, plus her contribution is priceless. Throughout her career, she received 8 Grammys, 10 CMAs, 5 ACMAs and 3 AMAs. To wrap up, this woman really earned every respect she needs, not because of her lavish career, but due to her legacy that she brought to the table.
