Norma Strait, the only wife of King of Country Music, George Strait. We all know that some of the greatest country artists have married multiple times, like Johnny Cash, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, and many more. That was the cases for them but not for the King of Country Music.

Norma Strait and King George are Totally Adorable
King George and Norma Strait are married now for 46 years. Did you know that they also are childhood sweethearts? They eloped, went to Mexico, get married and a few weeks later, they repeated their vows in Pearsall, Texas. Spending more than half of their lives together, George Strait told People magazine:
We love each other and we still like each other. We’re so blessed that we were able to experience this life together, to support each other through everything, good times and bad.
Now we're grown up and she's my wife, still like two kids with stars in our eyes. #GeorgeStrait

Norma and George as Loving Parents
Did you know that the King of Country Music was also in the army? (Thank you for his service!) Well, shortly after they married, he enrolled in the United States Army. He was whisked away to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii with Norma by his side. While he was in Hawaii, he started a successful U.S. Army band called “Rambling Country.” It was the start of his lengthy success.
Norma Strait stayed busy and gave birth to their first child, Jenifer on October 6, 1972, and in 1981, she gave birth to their son, George “Bubba” Strait Jr.
Unfortunately, George and Norma’s first born passed away in 1986 at the age of 13. She was the passenger in a cat and was ejected from the vehicle, killing her immediately. A private couple as they are, they didn’t publicly discuss the tragedy. However, their actions spoke louder than words. After the tragedy, they began the Jenifer Lynn Strait Foundation to support children’s charities in San Antonio area in Jenifer’s Memory. Not only that, George Strait’s 2005 song “You’ll Be There” makes him think of his daughter. He once told USA Today:
That song hit home for me for obvious reasons. I’m a religious person. I honestly believe we will see each other in heaven someday. I wanted to do the song badly.
Norma chose to work as a stay home mom with Bubba until he went to college at Texas A&M in College Station. After he graduated, he competed as a professional cowboy and married his wife, Tamara. The couple had a son in February 2012 and named him George Harvey Strait III and a daughter named Jillian Louise which made Norma and George happy grandparents.
Do You Know that They Stopped Dating After One Date?
After the King of Country Music took Norma on their first date, he didn’t take her out again for a long time. CBS Local reports George Strait revealed:
Norma was the first girl I ever loved. We knew each other forever, growing up in a small town. I never really even thought anything about her, but then one day I asked her out and we went on a date. We didn’t see each other for a long time after that. Then one day, I thought, ‘I’m missing the boat here,’ and we started dating again.

Just like in his songs, the King of Country Music, George Strait shows that he defines the word consistency in his personal life. With the record of 60 No. 1 hits, he also enjoys being one of the longest and most successful marriages in the music industry. We wish him more success and we wish him and Norma Strait all the best.
