Can you believe it? Randy Travis song “Forever and Ever, Amen” is already 30 years old! It was definitely a historic date (June 13, 1987) because on that day, his song reached the top of the charts and it stayed for three weeks.

“Forever and Ever, Amen” is his debut single from the album Always & Forever, which also landed on the top spot and sold more than 5 million units.

The song written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schiltz earned the North Carolina native multiple awards, including a Grammy award for the Best Country & Western Song and “Song of the Year” at the Academy of Country Music awards.

“I Won’t Need You Anymore (Always & Forever)” and “Too Gone Too Long,” are the other two singles that landed in the top. However, only “Forever and Ever, Amen” had multiple weeks run at number one.

This song is just one of his 16 chart-topping singles. He also had a pretty successful career. He got multiple country icon awards like the ACM and the CMA single of the Year in1987. The most recent top song he had was “Three Wooden Crosses” in 2002.

His songs “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “On the Other Hand,” and “Diggin’ Up Bones” helped usher in a new wave of country music. It was one of of the pioneers of the neo-traditionalist movement, the North Carolina native is credited with helping bring traditional country songs back into the mainstream.
