Elvis Presley’s “Peace in the Valley”…

Presley’s rendition marked a significant and changing event in history. It was when he performed “Peace in the Valley” on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1957. It made history since Presley helped 250,000 refugees fleeing Hungary. He dedicated his performance to the refugees. The total amount of earnings of US$49.5 million were distributed to the families in Vienna and London.

Thomas A. Dorsey was the songwriter behind the words and lyrics of “Peace in the Valley.” It was initially for Mahalia Jackson. It was introduced to the people by Red Foley in 1951. Since then, it became a song for religious groups and churches.
