More movies from the iconic songs of Dolly Parton are coming soon and they will be distributed through Netflix. Last week the announcement was made, Dolly Parton signed a subscription service to debut eight movies based from her legendary songs in the coming months and years. The legendary icon’s first transformed her songs into movies with Coat of Many Colors on NBC. It was based on her song from 1971. The movie had a good rating and was able to attract a whopping 13 million viewers making it the most watched made-for-TV movie since 2012. The sequel of the movie the following year ranked in 11.5 million viewers. Unfortunately, the 3rd movie based on her song “Jolene” never moved forward via NBC. Now, Netflix will make sure that Dolly Parton’s original idea for making many of her signature songs into movies continue.
She’ll Definitely Appear in the Movies
Dolly Parton will act as an executive producer and she will appear in the movies with Warner Bros. Television underwriting the effort. Also, Sam Haskell, who worked for with Dolly Parton for the first two movies, will make the move over to the Netflix production. As of now, there’s no word whether NBC didn’t want to continue the series despite the very strong ratings, or Netflix outbid NBC for the movie franchise. Anyway, it’s back to life and headed to a device near you (as long as you have Netflix).
In Dolly Parton’s statement:
“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music. I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support.”
As of now, there no information when the next movie will be released. Or if it will be the “Jolene” episode or another song.
