Just last month, Blake Shelton had a somewhat embarrassing stage tumble while performing at the Pendleton Whiskey Music Festival and admitted quickly that he’s been drinking a lot prior to the event causing him to lose his balance on stage. But the “I’ll Name the Dogs” singer was able to deal with the awkward experience the coolest way. Now, the most recent country music star to share his stage fall story is no other than the “Woman Amen” singer, Dierks Bentley. If Shelton blames drinking alcohol as the main culprit for his tumble, for Bentley, it’s his cowboy boots.
The Whole Story
In an interview at The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Bentley revealed the details of his off-balance case and what led to such. As a newcomer in country music, Bentley started playing in smaller venues and stages. As such, his movements have been limited most of the time. But, things were different when he was invited to open for Kenny Chesney. While on tour, the “Burning Man” singer joined Chesney back onstage for the reprise and decided to change his group. At that time, he was wearing a pair of boots which he never wore before.
Somebody had [sic] given me a pair of cowboy boots at the meet and greet and I thought, ‘I’ll put them on in case they’re out there, they can see me wearing them, so I’ll be a nice guy.’ Bad idea,” Bentley chuckles.
The Arizona native felt very much comfortable with his new set of kicks the moment he took the stage. But as he turns around and leaps from the eagle risers, everything reached to a screaming pause. He admitted,
“I landed in [sic] this kind of funky boots and it felt like the world’s biggest rubber band snapped inside my knee. It was a crazy, intense painful feeling. I tried to stay upright but I came crashing down. Kenny came over, kind of laughing, and just thinking I was messing around. He looked at my face and knew I wasn’t messing around, but I was able to finish the song through, I think, sheer fear of the crowd.”
Right after the concert, Bentley headed home to Nashville and upon learning his ACL got torn, he immediately underwent a surgery. Two days after the surgery, he’s back on the road with that new ACL entrenched on his knee.
