Strengthened Partnership on Reforestation

Save. Enhance. Enrich. Three words that maintain a strong intention, make a big impact and create a massive change. This thought comes in with planting with a purpose—planting for a better future.

The ongoing Amburayan River project continues to bring another call to increase the greens within the watershed and the riparian zones at some of the barangays of Suyo, Ilocos Sur. With this, a tree planting activity was conducted last September 9, 2016 where more than 100 participants consisting of the JVOFI staff, municipal employees, barangay councils, and the community who worked together in pursuing the project’s goal. This activity both gave life and strengthened the partnership with the communities along the tributaries of the Lower Amburayan River and its watershed.

Aside from the increase of trees, reforestation highlights another of its main importance—creating a great potential for ecotourism. Suyo has its own uniqueness and pride which may be developed and transformed. With just a few improvements, Suyo may be one of Ilocos Sur’s next tourist spot.

To start a goal means to maintain and to finish it—to ensure that a legacy should be passed on from time to time.  We and the environment comes in with a contract to accomplish. With the opportunities given, planting even a single seed makes a big difference. We plant our future. We build our future. We live our future.

Protecting and Defending the Amburayan River Basin and Watershed through Good Governance and Active Peoples’ Participation is a project funded by the USAID through the Gerry Roxas Foundation (GRF) and is implemented by the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation Inc.  (JVOFI).
